To maintain a strong community spirit and encourage everybody to enjoy their experience on WightForum.com, we have the following rules in place, which must be adhered to at all times.

Registration:

You may ONLY register for WightForum.com if you are a current resident OR past resident. This DOES NOT include people who have simply stayed for prolonged holidays. There are no age boundaries for users.

Registration is limited strictly to one account per person. You risk losing all accounts if it discovered that a you possess more than one account. However, we encourage more than one person per household to sign up - there is no limit on this.

Posting:

Forums contain different posting permissions throughout WightForum.com. This means simply, what is allowed in one forum, isn't in another. Notices will show up if you try to perform an 'illegal' action.

You must avoid posting any insults directly at another member. This includes 'veiled' comments, such as "If you think that then you are an idiot". Please view our guidelines for acceptable posting:

DO

  • Be polite and respectful at all times.
  • Log in on every visit.
  • Give clear posts backing up your opinion on issues.
  • Take time to check through your posts - a lot of mistakes take place when typing.
  • Spread the word about WightForum and make sure upon registration they input your username.
  • Report any problems to the 'Private User-to-Staff' forum.

DO NOT

  • 'Flame' or promote a negative attitude to other members through threads or Private Messages (see PM Rules below).
  • Go off topic in threads - the thread title should be stuck to and if the issue is important, please start a new thread in the appropriate forum.
  • SPAM WightForum - what takes you 10 minutes to SPAM takes us 1 minute to delete. You will be banned for constant spamming.
  • Post pornography or other questionable material. This includes graphic injuries or images of the sort. Remember the forum is for all ages.
  • Link to illegal material such as underage pornography. This is extremely serious and the Police have nearly been involved already for this rule-breaking. WightForum will do everything possible to help the Police track those responsible for promoting these sort of images.
  • Post individuals addresses or other contact information (email, telephone numbers) whether they are or are not members at WightForum.
  • Be aggressive to other members.
  • Come here with the intention of causing trouble - we have no time or need of people like that.

Avatars, Profile Pictures & Attachments:

We want users to express themselves, however certain images whether in personal options or viewable forums, are disallowed. This involves any sexually explicit images. Topless and 'erotic' pictures are allowed - but do not cross the boundary.

Due to continuing to cater for users on a 56k connection, we have some limits in place to avoid excessive page loading times:

  • No more than 2 images (of any sort) in a signature with none being more than 200 x 500 pixels (height x width).
  • A collective signature file size of no more than 500kb each.
  • An avatar of no more than 100 x 100 pixels and of no more than 100kb in size.

You MAY NOT upload anything that might compromise WightForum.com or its members. This includes, but is not limited to, virus's, Trojans or other malicious content. Users caught doing this may be reported to the appropriate authorities and ISP's.

Reputation:

The Reputation System is designed to give members a reason to post useful, friendly and intelligent messages. Every post on the forum may be rated by other members as 'approve' or 'disapprove'. This will give a + or - reputation 'point', respectively.

Positive Reputation should be given for:

  • Useful and informative messages.
  • Well thought-out and researched messages.
  • Posts you agree with, find funny or feel are a good standard of posts within WightForum.

Negative Reputation should be given for:

  • Posts that break any rules above (these posts should also be reported using the Report Post feature).
  • Posts you disagree strongly with. Not for a post where somebody likes a band that you don't, but for something you feel is WRONG in itself.
  • NOTE: You must leave a comment explaining your reason for giving negative reputation - negative reputation without a comment shall be removed!

It is very hard to give clear guidelines on the giving of negative reputation, so please use common sense. It is the right of the Administrator to remove negative reputation for whatever reason(s), which may change in each situation.

Respect:

It is expected that all members show respect on WightForum.com. At no time should personal insults be used against another member - and especially continuously. This is harassment and WILL NOT be tolerated. This includes Admin and any Staff.

Disagreements are fine - debates are good - insults are disallowed. For example.

"That's a load of rubbish! I think that..." - This would be acceptable.

"That's a load of rubbish you idiot! I think that..." - This is UNACCEPTABLE.

All rules are applicable for Private Messages, too. Be polite at all times!

Please remember:

We WILL take appropriate action if rules are broken, even if not expressly listed above.

Punishment could be anything from a warning to complete suspension.

Warning 'points' will be added to users who break rules - this is at the discretion of Staff. They are issued on a case-by-case basis. Normally, 3 warning points will lead to suspension.

We reserve the right to alter these rules at any time, without notification. Please use them as a guide as well as using a little common sense.

Take a look inside and then join the fun!
